General medicine includes basic care for all physical and mental health dis-orders in emergency, acute and long-term care as well as essential areas of prevention and rehabilitation. Based on a long-term doctor- patient relation-ship, general practitioners are the first point of contact for almost all health problems. General medicine includes the following:

  • Basic medical care

  • DMP care for diabetes mellitus, coronary heart disease, asthma and COPD

  • Health screening (check-up) and cancer screening

  • Vaccinations and checking vaccination status

  • Wound care of fresh or chronic wounds

  • Preparation for surgery

  • Follow-up care after surgical procedures
