Sonography, also known as “ultrasound”, is a procedure using ultrasound, which means sound that is higher than the frequencies that humans can hear. This is used to examine organic tissue in the body. The different abilities of tissue types to absorb and reflect ultrasound are illustrated. Theses images can then be interpreted in a clinical context by an experienced examiner. Examples of use of the sonography in our office are:

  • Abdominal sonography (ultrasound of the abdominal organs)

  • Thoracic sonography (ultrasound of the chest)

  • Thyroid sonography

  • Echocardiography (ultrasound of the heart)

  • Abdominal aortic screening as part of preventive care

  • Intima-media thickness or IMT (risk assessment of vascular diseases)
